A picture speaks a thousand words. A metaphor goes deeper. It just doesn’t speak to you, it guides you, it reminds you of your essence, it enables you.

Here are three analogies I keep going back when I struggle with the world to break through with my ideas.

Are you walking, running, or driving a car?

You don’t ask how far you have come every thirty minutes when you are walking — you would not have come very far and you’ll get frustrated. Two people building a company with no money is like walking. Five people with some money to spend are like running. Millions in funding are like a car. It’s important to put only as much pressure as your mode of movement can take!

The Walking Stick

Things that work for you, habits that enable you better — they are like walking sticks. They help you walk. Don’t mistake them for your legs!

Make spectacles

People don’t want to see what they don’t want to see. Don’t try and open someone’s eyes. Make spectacles that help them see better when they do open their eyes.
