The tree analogy is to exaggerate the choice-less ness some of us face in our worlds. When we face it enough number of times, we end up believing that the only way to live is total acceptance of things chosen for us. For example, people of north Korea, women in certain societies, orphaned children forced to beg in poor countries. When it comes to the unmarginalised - there’s definitely more choices but we as a society choose to build new worlds based on certain “early adopters”. Be it colonialism, capitalism, industrialised society, now metaverse - the trend is triggered by individuals belonging to certain demographic - class - philosophy. The underlying reason for this trend is that it gives us more choices or it provides us new dimension of choices than what was available in our existing world.
